Another trophy for Barça after the handball team won their 29th Copa del Rey, defeating Abanca Ademar León in the final. It is also the blaugranes' twelfth consecutive victory in the competition.
Carlos Ortega's side showed their dominance throughout the weekend at the legendary Artaleku venue, with the team coming into the final part of the season in great form.
Barça put out Recoletas Atlético Valladolid (37-23) in the quarterfinals, revelation Bada Huesca (28-43) in the semifinals, and today's final saw a win against Abanca Ademar León (25-34), who had dispatched hosts Bidasoa Irún.
Five trophies this season
The Copa del Rey win means that's five trophies in the 2024/25 season. Only the Club World Cup escaped Barça – and a penalty could have changed the outcome in that one – but they do go down as the winners of the Catalunya Super Cup, the Iberian Super Cup, the Spanish Cup, the Liga Plenitude and now the Copa del Rey too.
All that's already in the bag and the biggest event of the season is to come next week (14 and 15 June) – the final four of the EHF Champions League. Barça are current champions and will take on Magdeburg first. The other sides vying for a final spot are Füchse Berlin and Nantes. The blaugranes look to be well placed given their recent run of three wins in four years in Europe.
